Morro Bay ended up becoming one of my favorite places to stop. My hotel was just a two minute walk from the beach where I watched the sun set over the Pacific Ocean, one of my favorite experiences on the trip so far. The town of Morro Bay is a sort of sleepy beach town (I’m sure it’s lively in the summertime) with shops where you can buy seashells or rent a bike to ride along the coast. The main attraction, in my opinion, is Morro Rock, which sits in the Morro Bay harbor.
It is a volcanic plug, one of nine in the region. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to climb any part of it. Shame!
So instead we walked halfway around it and then over to the beach to watch the surfers catch some waves. They’re the little dots in this photo, see?
Morro Bay felt very peaceful and laid back, everything you might expect a small coastal town to be.
