I just want to say that whoever decided to create the Pacific Coast Highway is a genius. We left Lake Forest and headed north through Los Angeles, picking up Highway 1 (the Pacific Coast Highway) in Ventura, CA and taking it all the way up to San Francisco over the course of two days. We did stop in Morro Bay, but I’ll cover that in a separate post. First, I want to talk about how beautiful the PCH is. See?

This is what it looks like near Santa Barbara.
Then there’s a sea lion vista:

It was birthing season, so there were a lot of baby sea lions lying about. Lots of barking and carrying on. It sounded like a bunch of sea lion gossip to me. There were some dead baby sea lions as well, which was saddening. But the sea lions just hang out right next to them, gently accepting this aspect of life (or just plain ignoring it, whatever).
I’d recommend this drive to anyone and everyone, it’s incredibly worth it. It follows the ocean almost all the way to San Francisco and then continues after that. There are so many places to pull to the side and get out to take photos or contemplate the beautiful scenery, it’s breathtaking. More photos:
